Low pay is the top cause of stress for employees in the Philippines, a recent study by risk management company Willis Towers Watson showed.
Employers, however, ranked low pay as the eighth leading cause of workplace stress, according to the 2015/2016 Global Benefits Attitudes Survey.
Employers ranked lack of work-life balance as the leading cause of stress, which employees ranked fourth.
Minimum wage in the Philippine capital is set at P444 to P481 pesos depending on the sector.
“Clearly there are a number of employees who are dealing with financial challenges where employers might be able to help beyond increases in pay,” said Susan La Chica, Head of Health and Benefits for the Philippines at Willis Towers Watson.
The other causes of stress cited by employers and employees in the Asia Pacific region were: inadequate staffing, unclear or conflicting job expectations, company culture, technologies that expand work days, and lack of supervisor support.
