HOUSEHOLD service workers (HSWs) in Calabarzon are now entitled to more pay after the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) – 4A approved their wage increase.

In a statement, the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) disclosed that the Calabarzon wage board has already issued Wage Order RB 4A-01 and has taken effect last April 1.
“The wage order granted a P300 to P500 monthly wage increase to domestic workers in the region,” said the NWPC.

This means that the monthly minimum wage rate for domestic workers in the region’s Growth Corridor Area (GCA) is now at P2,500.

On the other hand, HSWs in Emerging Growth Area (EGA) and Resource Based Area (RBA) have a monthly minimum wage rate of P1,800.

The wage order applies to all domestic workers, whether on a live-in or live-out arrangement.

However, excluded are service providers, family drivers, children under foster family arrangement, and persons performing work occasionally.

Under the “Domestic Workers Act”, the minimum wage of domestic workers for those employed in chartered cities and first class municipalities must be P2,000.

On the other hand, those employed in other municipalities are mandated to receive P1,500.

The Republic Act 10361, however, provides the regional wage boards the authority to review and adjust the minimum wage rates of domestic workers one year after the law took effect. (HDT/Sunnex)
