MANILA, Philippines – A garbage collector died when he fell from a moving garbage truck in Sampaloc, Manila before dawn Monday.

Jonel Cataylo, 25, and a co-worker were sitting on top of the truck driven by Manolo Fernandez when a sagging electrical wire snagged him by the neck while the vehicle was cruising along Lacson Avenue shortly before 3 a.m., Senior Police Officer 4 Marco Saunar said.

Cataylo fell to the pavement. Fernandez and their co-worker took the victim to the Ospital ng Maynila. He was later transferred to the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center, where he died while receiving treatment.

Saunar said the case will be referred to the city prosecutor’s office.
