Chalk allowance dagdagan naman!

Sa pagsasabing bitin ang P1,500 taunang “chalk allowance” ng mga guro sa pampublikong paaralan, itinulak ng isang senador na itaas ito sa halagang P5,000.

Ang chalk allowance ay popular na terminong ginagamit ng mga guro hinggil sa natatanggap nilang allowance sa pani­mula ng school calendar bilang pambili ng chalk, lapis, ballpen, eraser, papel at iba pang school supplies na ginagamit nila sa pagtuturo.

Ngunit ayon kay Senate Minority Leader Ralph Recto, dahil sa modernong panahon ngayon, gumagastos na rin ang mga guro ng USB at iba pang computer hardware at software sa kanilang pagtuturo sa mag-aaral.

“If teachers are the front liners in the war against illiteracy, then they must be given enough supplies to perform their mission,” giit ni Recto.

Sa ilalim ng panukalang budget para sa taong 2017, mananatili ang P1,500 taunang chalk allowance ng mga guro sa panukalang P566.2 bilyong budget ng Department of Education (DepEd).

Kung itataas sa P5,000 ang taunang chalk allowance ng mga guro, sa kuwenta ni Recto ay aabutin ito sa halagang P2.7 bilyon.
