Patient-centered website empowers women in the fight against breast cancer

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among women, and mothers are particularly at risk.

Fortunately, medical science has made great strides in the early diagnosis and treatment of the disease, significantly reducing breast cancer deaths. With the availability of breast-sparing operations, gone are the days when the only treatment option was the surgical removal of the entire breast. Today, there are more and better treatment options for breast cancer.

Media and the internet are playing a major role in increasing public awareness on breast cancer prevention and early diagnosis. Novartis Healthcare Philippines recognizes the importance of empowering patients through accurate health information. Guided by the belief that well-informed patients can take a more active role in caring for their death, the leading research-based healthcare company recently launched its website (www.novartis.com.ph).

The reader-friendly website provides a comprehensive and easy-to-understand A-to-Z reference of diseases and conditions. These include breast cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), asthma, dengue, diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, osteoporosis, and tuberculosis.

“We want to truly understand how patients cope with their disease, how they interact with their doctors, how our treatments help them, and how we as a company can best address their needs. This heartful focus on patients is part of a paradigm shift at Novartis. We call it Patient Centricity,” explained Eric van Oppens, president and CEO of Novartis Healthcare Philippines. –Philippine Inquirer
