SSS to hold three-day job fair for displaced members

The Social Security System (SSS) is inviting its members, both local and overseas contract workers, who lost their jobs due to the global financial crisis to come to a one-stop-shop, multi-agency job fair on May 14 to 16, 2009. It will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the HK Sun Plaza, Financial Center, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City.

SSS Vice President for Public Affairs and Special Events, Marissu G. Bugante, said that the three-day job fair dubbed as “SSS Jobs Fair: Tulong Trabaho at Serbisyo Para sa Manggagawang Pilipino”, aims to assist displaced SSS members in finding other jobs through the help of partner-agencies.

“The SSS is responding to the needs of the times and this is one way through which we can help workers who have been retrenched or let go by their employers due to the global financial crisis. We hope that they can come and avail of the services we have in store, to help them through this crisis,” added VP Bugante.

During the job fair, SSS members will have access to livelihood and business opportunities, skills training and competency assessment, counseling, information seminars, and free medical and legal assistance for displaced members, including their families.

Officials from government and non-government organizations are expected to grace the opening ceremonies. Participating agencies are DOLE, OWWA, POEA, DILG, DSWD, DOST, TESDA, TRC, Public Employment Service Office Chapters (QC, Pasay, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Para?aque, Caloocan and San Jose del Monte, Bulacan), Philippine Association of Service Exporters, Inc., Overseas Placement Association of the Philippines, and the Philippine Association of Migrant Workers Advocates, among others.
