PB member endorses PESO for towns, cities

A provincial board member would like to see leaders of towns and cities assist residents find work by putting up Public Employment and Service Offices in their respective areas.

PB member Agnes Magpale said a number of unemployed residents of the different municipalities and cities in the province need guidance and assistance in looking for jobs.

She said PESO should be responsible for linking these job seekers to companies that are looking for workers. Magpale said PESO personnel should also verify if the companies looking for workers have the necessary papers issued by the Department of Labor and Employment and the Philippine Overseas and Employment Administration.

Magpale said the success of the first job fair sponsored by the Department of Tourism chaired by Secretary Joseph Ace Durano is an example that the local government units should emulate.

The provincial board supports President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo directing the Technical Education Skills Development Authority to establish scholarship programs for the more than 200,000 young Filipinos seeking employment in business processing and outsourcing firms and call centers.

Call centers, for instance, are rich sources of employment opportunities especially for new graduates.

Members of the provincial board said that providing students with scholarship grants that aim to train and equip them with the necessary skills are necessary for them to find work in call centers. – Jose P. Sollano, Philippine Star
