MANILA – Only 10 in every 100 applicants for jobs in the business process outsourcing industry get hired, highlighting the need to match the skills of the labor force with demand, an industry group official said Thursday.
The BPO job market has yet to reach saturation and employability in the industry has risen to 8 to 10 percent from 6 to 8 percent 5 years ago, said Contact Center Association of the Philippines chairman Benedict Hernandez.
Hernandez said the CCAP hoped to raise the employability rate to 15 percent by 2022, which would push annual revenues.
“There are gaps between the people who are aspiring for certain jobs and how many of them are employable. The reality is that industry has been reporting this for years,” Hernandez told ABS CBN News.
Only 1 in 3 fresh graduates in the Philippines are employable, with the rest struggling to match their skills with job requirements, according to a study by India-based Aspiring Minds.
“There’s a lot of work to be done. The future potential for us is moving to towards mid and high and complex type of jobs,” Hernandez said.
