WITH OBRERO-TUCP REPRESENTATION, DoLE orders Japanese firms to give regular employment status to over 1,000 workers (Manila Times)

The Philippines’ Department of Labour and Employment has ordered two Japanese firms operating in the Laguna province to give regular employment status to more than 1,000 workers after they were found to be engaged in illegal labour-only contracting activities, reports the Manila Times. Japanese manufacturing company Terumo and its three contractors were directed to regularise 1,048 workers as its contractors do not have substantial capital and the employees use the company’s equipment and tools in the performance of their outsourced services. Other findings include non-compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Standards, with the contactors lacking trained safety personnel.  Japanese automotive parts company Toyo Corp. and its 14 contractors were ordered to regularise 284 of their workers after being barred from engaging in labour-only contracting and sub-contracting activities.
