At least 66 workers were killed and 122 workers were injured in 47 serious workplace incidents in the Philippines in January-December 2016 – a TUCP compilation of media reports show.
Excluding the horrific 74 deaths toll from the Kentex slippers factory fire, deaths were almost at the same level as in 2015. Some 143 workers were killed and 86 workers were injured in 43 serious workplace incidents in 2015.
Most of deaths in 2016 were in mining (27) and construction (21), almost 75% of all workplace deaths. There were 28 deaths in mining and 26 deaths in construction in 2015.
