Mar 12, 2018 – GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE ON WOMEN UNIONISTS IN HANJIN ON WOMEN’S MONTH!
In perverse commemoration of Women’s Month, a Korean foreman [foreperson] of shipbuilder Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction – Philippines allegedly committed despicable acts of violence on two women unionists.
Women’s month pa naman.
Our AMAPO Hanjin correspondents say the physical violence was triggered by the two unionists not opting for “voluntary” resignation. “Voluntary” resignation is an evil tactic by Hanjin to cull union members to prevent the union from reaching majority. The actions contravene the AMAPO-Hanjin Agreement reached on January 31, 2018.
The first picture shows the piece of wood (clipboard) used by the Korean foreman to strike the woman worker two times after she refused to resign “voluntarily”.
The second picture shows the abrasions on a woman worker who was forced by the same Korean foreman to manually carry boxes and boxes of filler wire weighing 15 kilos each. Filler wires are used for welding. What was really galling was – that was not even in her assignment as material controller. Apparently, she was being punished for, again, not opting for “voluntary” resignation. A dismissed president in one Hanjin contractor union, who had experienced the same, also said Koreans in Hanjin do such thing even on mere whim. “Type lang nila. Lokoloko talaga mga Koreano.”
PICTURE
The pictures were so graphic that one worker posted in the union chat group that Koreans in Hanjin ought to be killed.
The union is filling appropriate charges.
It’s women’s month!
