LUCENA CITY –– A 62-year-old road construction worker was killed after he was accidentally hit by a wayward cargo truck in Tagkawayan town in Quezon province on Tuesday.

Simeon Tawat was bumped by a Bicol-bound truck being driven by Abner Fernandez in a road construction site along the Quirino Highway in Barangay Sta. Monica around 9 p.m., Tagkawayan police reported.

The report said the truck loaded with 1,500 sacks of flour was negotiating a descending section of the highway when its driver lost control of the vehicle.

The wayward truck crashed into a tricycle ahead of him then subsequently hit the victim and rammed into another heavy equipment at the said construction area.

The victim died on the spot.

Tricycle driver Rudy Bataller suffered injuries and was rushed to the Maria L. Eleazar Memorial District Hospital at the town center.
