MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said it is still “irregular” for Filipinos to work as household service workers and tutors in mainland China.

The agency said the Philippine consulate in Xiamen and other foreign service posts in China have recorded several cases of overstaying or irregular employment of Filipinos as household service workers or tutors.

Most of the cases, it said, were Filipinos illegally crossing to China through its borders.

“The DFA reiterates its notice to prospective job seekers in China that it is still irregular for Filipinos to work as household service workers and private tutors in mainland China,” read the statement issued on Friday night.

China has an existing restriction on hiring foreign workers.
