Statement of Roland de la Cruz, NACUSIP National President and PACIWU / CIO Senior National Executive Vice President on the proposed 2 year probationary period for workers.

“The proposal to extend employee probationary period to 2 years from 6 months is downright unconstitutional and oppressive. It infringes into a worker’s right to security of tenure and a better life for his family.

It is likewise an insult to the labor sector who for decades have been fighting for genuine reforms in labor legislations and to advance workers rights to freedom of association, security of tenure, living wage, better working conditions and gender equality in the workplace.

It will only exploit the overly exploited workers. It will arm unscrupulous employers to further trample on the basic rights of every filipino worker.

I call on all working filipinos organized and unorganized to stand together and be vigilant against these kinds of legislative proposals attacking the fundamental rights of the lifeblood of the philippine economy, the filipino workers.

This legislative proposal should be trashed immediately by the House of Representatives Committee on Labor and Employment.
