The Social Security System (SSS) said it is now working to enroll more informal workers, especially farmers, into its program.

In a report on GMA’s “Balitanghali” on Sunday, SSS media department acting head Fernan Nicolas said the agency is now disseminating information on its programs to encourage more workers to be pensioners.

“Kulang pa sila sa awareness kung ano ‘yung mga benepisyong nakukuha nila sa SSS, kami ang pupunta sa kanila so we are talagang reaching out to them para maging miyembro sila ng SSS,” he said.

“Ang target namin diyan ‘yung mga cooperative, ginagawa namin silang partners so coverage and also as collecting agents,” he added.

The SSS currently offers the AlkanSSSya Program, with monthly premiums designed for the informal sectors, at as low as P11 a day.

Under the program, informal sector groups are registered as SSS self-employed members and required to meet the P3,000 monthly salary credit, which translates to a P330 monthly contribution.

However, if they can afford it, the workers can declare a higher monthly income than the required minimum, and contribute a higher monthly salary credit.

“Ituruing po natin ang SSS na hindi gastos kundi, kumbaga, investment po ito na kung saan nakakapag-save kayo at ‘pag dating ng araw, makakakuha kayo ng mas malaking benepisyo,” said Nicolas. —
