Following the successful Labor Day job fair that placed 10,000 workers nationwide, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will conduct a bigger three-day Mega Job Fair as the main activity during the celebration of the 111th Philippine Independence.
The “Kalayaan 2009 Mega Job Fair” is the biggest nationwide job fair to be organized by DOLE so far, which is held simultaneously in 19 cities nationwide on June 12 to 14 2009. About 1,000 employers from the private and government sectors, including those from overseas recruitment industry would participate in the mega event. The event shall offer about 170,000 job vacancies across industries nationwide.
The first day of the job fair on June 12 would feature government agencies offering 50,000 emergency employment vacancies, including unfilled plantilla positions, covering professional and technical workers and other jobseekers. The unfilled plantilla positions are offered to applicants with civil service eligibility.
Emergency employment for not more than six months in government agencies in 2009 is allowed under Executive Order 782, which provides for the temporary filling up of vacancies in the government using 1.5 percent of MOOE.
The second day of the job fair on June 13 would feature private local companies offering some 70,000. The third day, June 14, would feature recruitment agencies offering some 50,000 sea-based and land-based overseas employment.
Who may join the Mega Job and Livelihood Fairs?
Any job seeker, whether employed, unemployed, underemployed or displaced workers may join the Mega Job Fair. Educational requirements of available job vacancies vary from elementary graduate and high school graduate to college and post college education. Available job vacancies will be sorted by skills requirement/educational attainment so that it would be easier for the job applicants to locate the vacancies that fit their skills qualifications.
What to bring during the Mega Job and Livelihood Fairs?
Job seekers are encouraged to bring as many copies as possible of the following documents when they join the Mega Job Fair to facilitate the submission of required application documents by prospective employers:
1. School diploma/transcript of record
2. Resume
3. Certificate of employment (if applicable or available)
4. ID photo
5. Civil Service Eligibility (if applicant wants to apply for plantilla positions in government agencies)
How to join the Mega Job and Livelihood Fairs?
Job seekers wanting a productive participation in the forthcoming “Kalayaan 2009 Mega Job Fair” may pre-register online by visiting the Phil-Jobnet website at www.phil-job.net or the Department of Labor and Employment website at www.dole.gov.ph. Pre-registration would save the job seeker 20-30 minutes queuing time, which he or she would have otherwise consumed in filling-out the customary registration form during the job fair.
Two lanes will be established at the job fair registration area—1) the pre-registered applicant lane; and 2) the walk-in applicant lane. Pre-registered applicants or online registrants with active Phil-JobNet account will be issued with a proof of registration. On the other hand, walk-in applicants, particularly those who have no Phil-JobNet account, are advised to come early to register and secure a proof of registration from the staff manning the registration booth.
To ensure the orderly conduct of the Mega Job Fair, all job seekers must follow the procedures indicated below:
For “walk-in” applicants or job seekers with no active Phil-JobNet account
1. Secure a National Manpower Registry System (NMRS) Form from the Registration Booth.
2. Fill-up the NMRS Form and ensure that the required information is provided. Print all entries legibly and refrain from writing abbreviations.
3. Submit the accomplished form in the Registration Booth and get a priority number.
4. Proceed to a workstation for encoding of jobseeker profile and issuance of a proof of registration or a registration card.
5. Proceed to the Vacancy Shopping Area and list the job vacancies that match with the applicant skills and qualifications. Applicants must also list the names of establishments with the corresponding booth number for easy reference.
6. Go to the employer booth for interview.
For pre-registered applicants or job seekers with active Phil-JobNet account
1. Proceed to the lane designated for pre-registered jobseekers for verification of identity and issuance of proof of registration.
2. Proceed to the Vacancy Shopping Area and list the job vacancies that match with the applicant skills and qualifications. Applicants must also list the names of establishments with the corresponding booth number for easy reference.
3. Go to the employer booth for interview.
What are the other activities during the “Kalayaan 2009 Mega Job and Livelihood Fairs?”
Aside from the job fair, a livelihood fair is also organized for individuals wanting to be entrepreneurs or self-employed. Showcasing of livelihood products by the beneficiaries of the livelihood programs of government agencies will be done near the job fair area.

1. Diskwento/Food Caravan (DOLE, DTI)—participating companies will offer their products at discounted prices
2. Trade Exhibits (DOLE, DTI, DSWD)—showcasing of products for trade or sale
3. Technology and Skills Demonstrations (DOST, Tesda)
4. Legal Services (DOJ, DOLE)
5. Medical Services (Red Cross, AFP)
6. Housing Clinic (HUDCC)
7. Libreng Tawag sa OFWs (Globe Telecom)
8. LRT/MRT Free Rides (DOTC)
A One-Stop Pre-Employment Services Area is also established where the job seekers could secure the basic pre-employment documentations like SSS Identification Number, NBI clearance, TIN, PhilHeath ID, and passport application processing.
Finally, all concert manias are invited to attend the June 12 free concert at Rizal Park, featuring well-known artists in the country like Charice Pempengco. A tribute to Francis Magalona. will also be held during the concert. This activity will surely entertain all jobseekers after a day’s full of job-hunting activities. –Manila Times
