Over 1,500 health workers in PH contract COVID-19; 232 recover, 32 die

MANILA, Philippines — More than 1,500 healthcare professionals in the country have been confirmed to have the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), of which 232 were able to recover while 32 succumbed to the disease.

The Department of Health (DOH) recorded a total of 1,552 healthcare workers who tested positive for the novel coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2, 37% or 571 of which are nurses, while 35% or 548 are physicians or doctors.

Below is the breakdown of the rest of the healthcare workers who were confirmed to have COVID-19:

Nursing assistants – 97

Medical technologists – 60

Radiologic technologists – 30

Respiratory therapists – 18

Midwives – 17

Pharmacists – 11

Others – 200

The DOH said 232 healthcare professionals were able to beat the disease while 32 have succumbed to it, including 24 doctors and seven nurses.

So far, there are 8,212 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country, with 1,023 recoveries and 558 fatalities.
