Cases of violence vs women drop — PNP

MANILA, Philippines — Rape and other cases of violence against women and children went down by 55 percent during the community quarantine, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported yesterday.

Brig. Gen. Alessandro Abella, director of the PNP Women and Children Protection Center, said 962 cases of abuse were recorded from March 15 to May 31.

The figure was lower by 55.29 percent compared to 2,152 cases posted during the same period last year.

From January to May, a total of 2,914 cases of abuses were recorded nationwide, lower compared to 4,859 incidents in the same period last year, for a decrease of 40.02 percent.
