MANILA, Philippines — Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez on Wednesday said they are targeting a lower percentage of closed businesses before the year ends.

“Hopefully [bumaba] in a nudge mga four percent, maybe swerte na yung three percent,” Lopez told INQUIRER.net.

(Hopefully, it will drop in a nudge, around four percent, consider it lucky if it reaches three percent.)

According to Lopez, a recent DTI survey of 3,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) showed that only five percent of the 1.5 million registered businesses remain closed in November.

“It looks konti but in terms of number marami pa ‘yan,” Lopez said.

(It looks few, but in terms of the number, that is still a lot.) [ac]
