Minimum age para sa domestic workers itaas sa 18: child rights group

MAYNILA — Mas mainam kung itataas sa 18 anyos ang minimum age na maaaring payagang maging domestic worker o kasambahay ang isang indibidwal, mula sa kasalukuyang 15 anyos, sabi ng isang child welfare group.

Ayon kay Daphne Culanag, project director ng Project Against Child Exploitation ng World Vision, delikado kasi para sa mga kabataan ang mawalay sa kanilang pamilya.

“Sa karanasan ko, may mga batang nagtatrabaho hindi dahil sa pinipilit sila ng magulang nila pero pakiramdam nila napipilitan sila dahil sa sitwasyon ng kanilang kahirapan,” ani Culanag.

Makabubuti rin aniya kung magkakaroon ng pag-aaral ang gobyerno kung ano ang estado ng child labor sa panahon ng pandemya.

Hinimok ni Culanag ang employers na huwag nang kumuha ng mga menor de edad na kasambahay.

Una rito, nagpaalala ang DOLE sa employers na ilegal ang pag-hire ng mas mababa sa 15 anyos bilang kasambahay.

Sa October 2019 survey ng Philippine Statistics Authority, may 1,400,132 domestic household workers sa bansa.

Mahigit 40,000 sa bilang na ito ang 18 anyos pababa, at mababa sa 1 percent o 5,000 ang 15 anyos pababa.

Batay naman sa 2019 report ng US Department on Labor on Worst Forms of Child Labor, 40.5 percent ng child laborers sa Pilipinas ay nasa services, kasama ang domestic work o pagiging kasambahay, trabaho sa kalye, scavenging, at pamamalimos sa kalye.
