CALOOCAN CITY, May 15 (PIA) — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) today announced the conviction of a woman for human trafficking by a Quezon City Court.

In a 28-page decision rendered by Branch 86, Regional Trial Court of Quezon City on April 7, 2021, the Court sentenced Jenniffer Pestano y Chua a.k.a. Jennylyn to life imprisonment and to pay the fine of P5 million.

The Court also ordered Jennelyn to pay each of the three private complainants P50,000 as moral damages and P50,000 as exemplary damages.

NBI Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Director Eric B. Distor said Pestano and a minor were arrested by agents of NBI-Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Division (NBI-AVAWCD) on September 10, 2019 in Novaliches, Quezon City.

The subject minor was turned to the DSWD while Pestano was charged with 12 counts of qualified trafficking in persons under R.A. 9208 or the Anti-trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 as amended by R.A. 10364 or the “Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012”.

Distor said last September 2019, the NBI-AVAWCD received a report regarding the human trafficking activities of the subjects in Quezon City.

The official added that after verifying the information, NBI-AVAWCD operatives “hatched” the entrapment operation which resulted in the arrest of the two subjects and rescue of at least 12 minor girls.

In a series of court appearances, three NBI-AVAWCD operatives, an NBI photographer, and three minors from the alleged victims were offered by the prosecution as witnesses. (PIA NCR)
