MANILA, Philippines — Appliance store chain Automatic Centre is set to close next month amid economic challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We would like to announce that Automatic Appliances Inc. will officially close its appliance retailing operations effective Oct. 10,” AAI president and chief executive officer Geoffrey Lim said in a statement yesterday.

Lim said the decision to close Automatic Centre was made as the pandemic has caused tremendous challenges on the business.

“As AAI winds down its appliance retail operations, we would like to assure you that we remain committed to honoring our obligations and that we intend to work closely with each of you to ensure a smooth transition and closing process,” he said.

He said AAI is seeking out parties that may be interested in using or adopting the Automatic Centre brand name moving forward.

Automatic Centre started its operations in 1948, with its first outlet occupying a 40-meter area along Avenida in Rizal, Manila.

The brand has been known for selling quality appliances, electronics and gadgets at reasonable prices.

According to the company’s website, there are 20 Automatic Centre stores nationwide in the Greater Manila Area and Metro Cebu.
