MANILA, Philippines — A housemaid was arrested in Pasig City on Friday after she reportedly assaulted her employer for harassing her to change her religion.

Alma Corpus, 43, had been working for Adoracion Santos, 69, for two years.

Pasig police chief Col. Roman Arugay said the incident happened at Santos’s residence in Barangay Malinaw at around 10 a.m.

Before Corpus attacked Santos, the two were having a heated argument due to their beliefs on religion.

Sought for details, case investigator Chief M/Sgt. Hermel Vergara said Santos kept trying to convince Corpus to join the Kingdom of Jesus Christ.

Santos, who is a born-again Christian, has repeatedly refused.

During the latest argument, the maid allegedly took a piece of wood and repeatedly hit her employer on the head.

A neighbor who overheard the commotion responded and pacified Corpus. Police later arrived and placed the suspect under arrest.

Santos was brought to a hospital, where she remains under observation.

Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and other officials of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ face charges of allegedly running a sex trafficking operation in the United States that involved threatening girls as young as 12 with “eternal damnation” and physical abuse.
