MANILA, Philippines — About three in every 10 adult Filipinos said their quality of life worsened over the past year, according to a recent survey con[1]ducted by Social Weather Stations (SWS).

Results of the June 26 to 29 survey released yesterday showed that 31 percent of the 1,500 respondents saw their life worsened compared to 12 months ago.

Some 29 percent said it got better, while 39 percent said it was the same.

The latest survey resulted in a “net gainers” score of “fair” -2, obtained by subtracting those who said their lives worsened from those who said their lives improved.

It was similar to the -2 “net gainers” score obtained in April 2022, when 34 percent said their quality of life worsened and 32 percent said it was better.

SWS said it is still 20 points below the pre-pandemic level of the “very high” +18 (21 percent worse, 39 percent better) obtained in December 2019.

Based on the latest survey, the steady “net gainers” score was due to increases in Metro Manila and rest of Luzon, combined with decreases in Visayas in Mindanao.

It was highest in Metro Manila at “high” +6 (from +4), followed by those in Luzon at “high” +5 (from +1), Mindanao at “fair” -7 (from -4) and Visayas at “mediocre” -17 (from -12).

The survey has a margin of error of +/- 2.5 percent for national percentages.
