By Richmond Mercurio (The Philippine Star), Jul 14, 2017 MANILA, Philippines – Employers are opposing plans to further reduce the number of working days through additional holidays, saying this will lead to lower labor productivity and higher cost of doing business in the country.
INCREASING the number of holidays in the Philippines would make the country less competitive than its Southeast Asian neighbors and may turn away much-needed foreign investment, a labor official said Thursday.
A new cycle of holidays will start in this new year, 2011. Our country has more holidays than most countries and some of them happen at the spur of presidential decision.
Sen. Joker Arroyo yesterday twitted President Aquino for defying the previous administration’s “holiday economics” style. If the executive department doesn’t want to follow, they should move to repeal the law, he said.
