By Leslie Ann Aquino, Manila Bulletin, Oct 25, 2018 Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III has instructed the Philippine Overseas Labor Offices to conduct post-arrival orientation seminars (PAOS) to newly-arrived overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) ideally within one month from the date of their arrival in the host country.
Deployment of Filipinos abroad as overseas contract workers (OCWs) or overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have been increasing in recent years. Based on a recent count, an average of 100 OFWs leave the Philippines every hour to find well-paying jobs abroad.
Sen. Manny Villar chided the Insurance Commission (IC) for its failure to embark on a public information campaign about the mandatory insurance coverage for overseas Filipino workers, many of whom do not understand the benefits accruing from it.
