MMDA to recoup $2-B lost to traffic mess

Traffic problems in Metro Manila have cost the government $2 billion in economic losses. Citing a study made by the World Bank, Chairman Francis Tolentino of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday said that the losses could be recouped in part by the odd-even scheme for vehicles that he has decided to revive.

Manila was listed as one of 10 worst cities in the world to drive in. According to MSN.com, Manila along with Rome, Mumbai, Paris, Beijing, Seoul, and others were not ideal places for driving. The site told drivers to expect in Manila triple-lane changes, failure to signal, and breezing through red lights.

Contractors of utility firms causing traffic jams will be arrested — MMDA

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has warned erring contractors of local utility companies they will be arrested if they are found unnecessarily causing traffic jams along Edsa and other major thoroughfares due to their unscheduled road repairs and digging works.
